Your home showcases a beautiful blend of Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics. How did you develop your passion for the Japandi style?

Our passion for the Japandi style was born as we renovated our 1970s Danish home. The house itself, with its flat roofs and open spaces, already had a lot of Japanese-inspired elements, so it felt natural to blend the two styles. We didn’t even know it was called Japandi at first; we could just clearly see the architects inspiration from the japanese design and we wanted to respect it and make it more modern.

As we started working on the house, and gather more inspiration, we fell in love with the way these styles complemented each other. The clean lines and natural materials created a peaceful, welcoming space that felt just right for us.

Now, as we look around, we’re so happy with how it turned out. Our home is not just beautiful but also practical, and it really reflects who we are. Of course, there’s always room for more creativity, and we are excited about what we might do next. But for now, we’re just enjoying this zen yet cozy space we’ve created.

You’ve chosen the side table in aged brass among the various finishes available. What stands behind this choice, and what do you appreciate most about its design and finish?

The aged brass finish for our side table was chosen for its timeless elegance and warm, sophisticated look. We believe that every piece in our home should tell a story and add character to the space. The patina of the brass adds a unique, lived-in quality that complements the natural materials and muted tones of our Japandi decor. It is simply beautiful and looks slightly different depending on the lighting, which adds a lot of interest to the design.

Your Instagram is filled with stunning DIY projects and interior design tips. Where do you find your inspiration? Can you share a memorable project or renovation that stands out in your journey as a digital creator?

We find our inspiration from a blend of experiences. Of course, living in our space and letting it guide us before making any changes is crucial. We spend time getting to know the house, thinking about how we want each area to function and feel, and ensuring the spaces complement each other.

Additionally, we draw a lot of inspiration from our travels. Visiting different hotels, restaurants, and unique locations gives us fresh ideas and new perspectives on design. These experiences, combined with our daily interactions with our home, fuel our creativity.

One project that truly stands out is our indoor garden. It was a space that left us puzzled for a long time. We didn't rush the process, instead allowing the idea to slowly take shape. Then, one day, we had that magical “aha” moment, and the concept of the indoor garden fell into place. This project taught us that it’s okay for design to take time; it needs to feel right. The indoor garden has become a defining feature of our home, adding unique charm and character.

You’ve mentioned that your home is a sanctuary where you find peace and tranquility, and that beige tones play a crucial role in creating this serene environment. How do you incorporate these neutral tones into your Japandi decor?

We love the beige aesthetic because of its versatility. Using beige tones allows all rooms to fit well together, making it easy to move decor and some furniture pieces freely between spaces. This flexibility lets us create new designs and functions by "shopping our home" without spending additional money. Beige tones also promote a sense of harmony and help us unwind. We've experimented with colors, like pink pillows in the living room and green walls in the office, but they felt too distracting.

What advice would you give to someone looking to adopt this style in their own home to create a harmonious and stress-free space?

If you want to adopt this style, try to edit your space. Take a picture of your room and see what stands out as a distraction. Instead of a colorful blanket, opt for a thick, woven one. Replace busy, colorful pillows with simple, beige canvas ones. Focus on adding texture rather than color to create dimension without making the space feel cluttered. Of course, Pinterest is always the perfect place to search for inspiration. Just search for japandi bedroom, japandi living room, bathroom, make a board and identify each picture, what do they have in common that you like, and what is possible to recreate in your space.
