The creative realm of Pieter Peulen

Step into the eclectic and meticulously curated world of Pieter Peulen, a Belgian interior designer turned photographer who has captivated a significant following with his unique blend of vintage charm and minimalist aesthetics. Based in the Belgian countryside, Pieter shares his life with his partner Joeri and their dog Memphis. His journey from interior design to photography has led him to create stunning visual narratives that are as inspiring as they are authentic.

Your transition from interior design to photography has been quite fascinating. What inspired this shift, and how do you integrate your design background into your photographic work?

During my work in interior design, I always loved presenting the end results and capture it. I have always been very much into making moodboard. I discovered film photography, and this is how I learned everything from the very basic. Of course, it has a lot of touch points when I comes to use of colour, composition, being creative…

Your home has a “museum environment” where objects frequently change. We are glad to add our aluminium short side table to your collection. Can you share the process behind selecting and arranging these pieces to maintain a cohesive yet dynamic space?

It’s not done with a lot of thought but mainly what I’m feeling. When I come across a new object I really like and add, I always find a way to let in blend in and shine in my environment.

Your expertise in finding hidden gems is well-known. Could you share a particular story where you found an extraordinary piece unexpectedly?

The best finds are always online, I think. Just spending an evening at Facebook marketplace and really deep diving into the rabbit hole always bring out the best items. It excites me extra when I can find something for a good price!

Instagram plays a significant role in your professional life. How do you approach content creation for your audience, and what do you aim to convey through your posts?

I kind of rolled into it when the first pictures of my house went viral. So, I actually just give the people what they like to see, it changes a lot. But of course, inspiring people with simplicity is the biggest message I want to bring.

Future plans are always exciting. What upcoming projects or collaborations are you looking forward to, particularly in integrating new design elements into your work?

I’m actually still working on finishing this house. Still some details we have to finish, and I really want to do to wrap this era up. The next steps will probably include getting a new property, maybe in a country with a nicer climate.
